TIRANA, July 19 – Manolis Kefaloiannis, head of the EP delegation of the EU-Albania Stabilization-Association Parliamentary Committee, said he supports Albania’s integration into the European family.
At the opening of the proceedings of the 16th meeting of the EU-Albania Stabilization-Association Parliamentary Committee, Kefanloiannis said that the speed with which Albania will be able to integrate into the European Union depends on the speed with which the country fulfills its duties.
“We voted on the report last week in Strasbourg at the plenary session there. And the report was approved by a large majority of all European parliamentary parties. We strongly believe and urge all EU institutions to help Albania’s EU membership,” Kefaloiannis said.
He pointed out that the population of Albania is 1% of the European Union, which makes it easier to join the big European family.
“I once said that Albania has 4.5 million people inside and maybe another 5 million outside. The EU is 500 million. You are 1% of the European population. 0.5% of EU GDP. So, as far as the economy, the population is concerned it is very easy, very easy for you to become part of the EU. Not only Albania, but all the countries of the Western Balkans,” continued Kefaloiannis. /argumentum.al
