TIRANA, July 27 – The General Secretary of the Democratic Party (DP), Gazment Bardhi announced in a media statement after the end of the online meeting of the National Council on Thursday its decisions.
According to Bardhi, the elections of July 29 for the new chairman of the DP have been cancelled, while the freezing of the functions of the Chairmanship of this DP faction led by Lulzim Basha, a former DP head, was also decided.
The National Council observed that all the decisions and positions of the Chairmanship of the Party starting from June 6, 2023, are anti-statutory, taken without a quorum and they have been annulled and the National Council has decided to suspend the statutory activity of the DP Chairmanship until it is verified the statutory regularity of its composition, said Bardhi.
“The elections on July 29 have been canceled and will be held at another time and after a comprehensive process,” added Bardhi.
According to him, the National Council has tasked a group of deputies to follow all legal and statutory steps for the implementation of the Council’s decision, as well as for the representation of the Democratic Party in legal ways to oppose any act that contradicts the decision.
Bardhi announced that the resignation of the vice-chairman, Enkelejd Alibeaj was also accepted during the proceedings in the National Council, while the consideration of the departure of the vice-chairmen, Agron Gjekmarkaj and Jorida Tabaku was left for another moment.
At the end of his statement, Bardhi said that 245 members, out of 453 in total, were present at the meeting of the National Council, completing the necessary quorum. /argumentum.al
