TIRANA, August 6 – The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, has once again confirmed that Kosovo is an independent state and that there will be no other decision on this issue.
“Recognition of Kosovo’s independence, the country’s membership in NATO and sanctions against Russia, as part of the common foreign and security policy of the European Union, are finished issues,” Milatović told RTV Slovenia on Sunday.
Montenegrin pro-Russian parties initiated the withdrawal of Kosovo’s recognition in April of this year, Free Europe said in Serbian.
Kosovo’s independence was recognized by the Government of Montenegro in 2008, when Milo Djukanovic’s Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) was in power.
The latter lost power in the August 2020 elections, where the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian Democratic Front, the Democrats and the URA movement emerged victorious.
Milatović expressed the hope that the Montenegrin state will become a full member of the European Union in the next 4-5 years with the help of strategic partners. /argumentum.al
