TIRANA, August 10 – Prime Minister Edi Rama has commented on the relations between Kosovo and Serbia in an interview with Italian media which was carried by local media in Albanian on Thursday.
Rama said that the situation of the Serbian minority in the north could turn into a small Donbass.
Rama added that Prime Minister Albin Kurti should not be stubborn while stating that agreements do not stay on the table forever.
“He (Kurti) is stubborn and maximalist. There is a fantastic possibility, the Franco-German peace plan. Deals don’t stay on the table forever. Then, history makes you wait,” said Rama.
According to him, Serbia should be seen differently. “It has a very serious past as an aggressor, it is the author of an ethnic cleansing that it must leave behind. He (Vucic) has built his foreign policy as a corridor of mirrors between the West, Russia and China. He has to make a decision, but I think he will choose the West, the democratic world.”
Answering a question if Kosovo risks returning to Donbass, Rama said of course yes. “I’m very worried, but everything depends on us. No one can trouble the Balkans if we don’t give them a chance. The conflict in Kosovo can become big, even if it is small. The situation of the Serbian minority in the north could be a small Donbass. Putin’s dream. But Serbia cannot be Russia, even if it wanted to.”
Speaking on the role of Turkish President Erdogan, Rama said he has a very important role for the stability and security of Europe and is a capable interlocutor between Ukraine and Russia. “But I don’t think there is a magic key to change an imperialist, anti-democratic and chauvinistic vision like Putin’s. All wars end at the political table, but unfortunately it will still take a long time,” said Rama. /argumentum.al
