TIRANA, August 14 – A protest in favor of the release of elected Mayor Fredi Beleri took place in Himara, southern Albania, peacefully.
Earlier, a police officer who had a piece of paper in his hands told the organizers that the rally is prohibited for security reasons, according to ERT.
Meanwhile, Beleri spoke from prison about the charges against him: “I’m fine, I’m strong. I’m waiting. 3 months have passed, I am determined to be sworn in as mayor and go where the Himariots have appointed me,” said Beleri quoted by local media on Monday.
“I want to tell them (Himara citizens) to be strong, wait and have faith in God and faith in the fight. Justice can be slow. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower, but in the end it always wins,” he added.
“The only reason I’m in is the property grab from local Greek residents for strategic investors, who are mostly friends of the government and the prime minister,” he noted. /argumentum.al
