TIRANA, August 23 – Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has thanked foreign partners for the help given to extinguish the fires that have engulfed his country for several days.
Among them, Mitsotakis expressed his gratitude to Albania for the support given.
“Our thanks go to Albania for sending 48 firefighters and 9 vehicles that joined us as we fight the fires in Alexandroupolis. Thank you Albania,” he said in a post on social networks on Wednesday.
He also said that the firefighting teams, Armed Forces helicopters are engaged to control the fires that have erupted in different places in Greece.
“As Greece battles forest fires, firefighters, pilots, policemen and women are working tirelessly to protect lives, property and our forests. They are not alone. Partners and allies are next to them. We thank them for their help,” said the Greek Prime Minister.
Earlier it was reported by local media that Greek authorities had refused the Albanian offer for help. No further details are given if it was fake news or a change of mind by official Athens. /argumentum.al
