TIRANA, September 1 – In the framework of an official visit to Tirana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Melanie Joly, met on Friday the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the country, Olta Xhaçka, and the two counterparts emphasized the strengthening of Albania-Canada relations in a joint statement to the media.
Xhaçka said that the ministers discussed the deepening of relations between the two countries in various fields. She also said that Joly has influenced the intensification of these relations by enabling Canadian investments in Albania.
“Minister Joly has contributed first-hand to the intensification of relations between the two countries. We discussed the possibilities to increase Canadian presence and investments in Albania, and I appreciated the importance of reactivating the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives to support various programs,” she said in the joint press conference.
According to her, the Social Security Agreement between Albania and Canada was also part of the discussions, and the unwavering support of the two countries for Ukraine’s sovereignty was expressed, as well as the need to strengthen bilateral coordination with like-minded countries and partners in NATO.
For her part, Minister Joly wished good luck to Albania in the leadership of the UN Security Council during the month of September and reiterated the strong relations between Albania and Canada. Joly said that an agreement will be signed for the protection of Canadian investments in Albania.
“I would like to take the opportunity to talk about EU accession. Canada is not a member of the European Union, but we are friends with both Albania and the European Union. I believe that the future of Albania is in the EU,” said Joly. /argumentum.al
