TIRANA, September 11 – The Committee for Foreign Policy considered on Monday the draft law “On the accession of the Republic of Albania to the extended partial agreement (EPA) for the establishment of the register of damages caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine”.
Invited to present this bill were the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Artemis Malo and Shpresa Shahaj, director of International Law.
Malo said that Albania’s accession aims to fulfill one of the basic tasks related to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. “This fact also comes as an obligation of Albania’s role in protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and respecting human rights. Albania has politically supported the decision-making of the Council of Europe for the creation of the register. The register will serve to document damages, losses or damages caused to natural and legal persons in Ukraine,” said Malo.
The relator of the case, Petro Koçi, said that the Council of Europe has played a very active role against Russian aggression in Ukraine, underlining that the creation of a register will serve to record damages. “Russia must pay for what it is doing. It is an honor for Albania to be part of this mechanism,” Koçi said.
The committee approved in principle article by article and in its entirety the draft law in question. /argumentum.al
