TIRANA, September 18 – The Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union in Tirana, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, participated in the OSCE Media Development Forum held in Tirana on Monday.
Soreca reconfirmed that media freedom is at the center of EU enlargement policy. He encouraged the Albanian government and public authorities to engage with the media community and stakeholders to address the following challenges: improving working conditions for journalists, threats to journalists and addressing systemic issues of media ownership.
Albania’s EU membership negotiations are an opportunity to make progress in media freedom in Albania, Soreca said.
Launched in 2015, the Forum for Media Development serves as a platform for discussing issues of media freedom and development in Albania among journalists, experts and relevant institutions. This year the discussions focused on the safety of journalists, legislation affecting the media and the impact of artificial intelligence on the work of the media in Albania. /argumentum.al
