TIRANA, September 29 – The hearing for the “Gërdec” explosion case in which the main accused is former defense minister Fatmir Mediu was postponed to October 3 after there was another request to call other witnesses.
Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) was expected to decide on Friday for the witnesses of SPAK and Fatmit Mediu, but Dorian Matlia, the lawyer of the Durda family who lost their son in the March 15 tragedy, requested 12 more witnesses. Matlia requested as witnesses the former mayor of the municipality at the time of the explosion, Fiqiri Ismaili, Efraim Diveroli as well as other senior officials of the Gërdec factory.
Through his defense lawyer, Fatmir Mediu once again repeated the list of evidence and the list of witnesses, which are required for the purpose of this ordinary trial. This shows that Mediu did not waive any of the required witnesses even when he waived the summary judgment and requested a regular trial.
He requested the summoning of Gordon England and a series of defense ministers of the allied countries, who will explain which were the efforts of the Ministry of Defense to carry out the dismantling as one of the conditions imposed on Albania and which were the powers of the Ministry of Defense and those of the Armed Forces.
The list of witnesses includes Patrik Henri and several administrators who dealt with the dismantling, several former Albanian ministers such as Erik Ligori, former Minister of Defense, Pandeli Majko as one of the officials who signed and participated in the working groups when it was approved Albania’s effort to start dismantling. Besnik Mustafaj, Ridvan Boden, Aldo Bumci, Mimi Kodheli are also on the list. The latter was Minister of Defense and presided over this process after Mediu left the post. /argumentum.al
