TIRANA, October 2 – Some 121,000 students sat in the auditoriums on Monday morning to start the new academic year in the public and private universities of Albania. At the start of the new academic year, about 19,800 students have sat down for the first time in university benches.
But even this time the lesson did not start regularly. Some medical students have boycotted classes. They oppose the draft law that defines forced employment in Albania. “The idea that we are forced to stay here does not seem reasonable to me at all,” said a student quoted by TV Klan. “We will boycott today and continue until the second decision on the law is made.” However, there are also students who have decided to sign the contract.
The Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu said that the bill was drafted only to help students. “It creates more opportunities for medical students to benefit from housing programs and get hired as a priority,” she said.
For graduates who have not yet registered at the university, there is still an opportunity to apply for a study program at the universities from October 4 to 18.
“All high school graduates who failed to register either in the first round or in the second, have the right to submit an application to the respective faculties where they wish,” said Manastirliu. /argumentum.al
