TIRANA, October 5 – On the eve of the Berlin Process Summit that will be held in Tirana on October 16 for the first time outside the political borders of the European Union, EU Ambassador in Tirana Luigi Soreca has given details about what is expected from this important development.
Ambassador Soreca emphasized in an interview with News 24 TV on Thursday that the Summit will give an important signal of support for Albania and other countries of the Western Balkan region. “The summit will be another very important moment for Tirana, for Albania and for the region,” he said.
“The Berlin process is parallel to the accession process, but they mutually reinforce each other, because economic integration, which is the objective of the Berlin Process, is what the region also needs a lot for the accession process. For me, the key word of the 16th the acceleration of reforms. We have to accelerate from both sides,” Soreca said.
Brussels’ top envoy in Tirana said that the Summit will bring concrete results, but this time the key word is economy, it is economic convergence. All the agreements that will be signed in Tirana on the 16th will be related to the economy. According to him, at the end of the Summit there will also be a statement that the partners of the Western Balkans will join the unique euro payment area to facilitate cross-border payments.
In conclusion Soreca said: “If Albania continues to give results during this period, as it has done so far, I am convinced that there may be very good news for the country in December.” /argumentum.al
