TIRANA, October 23 – Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha will be questioned by the Special Court on Tuesday at 14:00. “The Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime has scheduled the hearing of the questioning of the person under investigation Sali Berisha, based on Article 248 point 1 of the Penal Code on 24.10.2023, Tuesday, at 14:00,” it is said in the announcement of the prosecution authority against corruption, SPAK on Monday.
While there is still no decision from the Parliament and Berisha stated earlier that he does not know the Court’s decision, it is not yet known if he will respond to this request.
The session has been scheduled while Berisha’s son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, is behind bars for the privatization of the former Partizani complex more than a decade ago. Several towers have been built there. The security measure “obligation to appear” and blocking of the passport to leave the country has been set for Berisha.
In the meantime, Jamabër Malltezi and Fatmir Bektashi appeared before the Special Court on Monday. Malltezi appeared before the court on charges of corruption and money laundering, and Bektashi was also charged with the same accusations.
The session originally started at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, but was postponed because the judges asked for more time to familiarize themselves with the file. /argumentum.al
