TIRANA, October 23 – The chairman of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, reacted on Monday regarding SPAK’s accusations against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha for corruption.
Bardhi said in a statement to the media that he supported the Justice Reform, but he emphasized that SPAK had violated the Constitution with the decision to restrict Berisha’s freedom of movement.
He said that the restriction of Berisha’s movement without the authorization of the Assembly is a serious violation of the Constitution and raises serious questions about SPAK.
“Personally, I unreservedly support everyone’s equality before the law. However, the Constitution of Albania, in the case of elected officials, has provided some additional guarantees, which must be ensured without any exception. When a security measure that limits freedom in any form must be assigned to a member of parliament, the prosecutor is obliged to request authorization from the Assembly,” Bardhi said.
According to him, the restriction of freedom of movement of MP Sali Berisha, without the authorization of the Assembly, is a serious constitutional violation that raises strong questions about the reasons for SPAK’s haste. /argumentum.al
