TIRANA, October 25 – Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha did not appear at the Special Court, GJKKO on Wednesday to be questioned regarding the investigation into the Privatization of the former “Partizani” complex, as according to him, he is respecting the Constitution.
Instead of him, his two legal representatives, attorney Genc Gjokutaj and Sokol Mêngjesi, appeared at the hearing. During the session, the latter were addressed with several requests, among which for consideration of the case by the Constitutional Court. After this request was rejected by GJKKO, the two lawyers of Sali Berisha chose to abandon the session.
According to the Constitution, Berisha is an MP and it is the Assembly which opens the way to judicial procedures against deputies.
Then GJKKO requested that Berisha be defended by a lawyer appointed by the state. According to the reaction made by GJKKO itself, the lawyer was appointed Artan Simoni. After this move, which is the first to happen for an official or former high official, the session at GJKKO was postponed for two hours, so that Simoni could familiarize himself with the file. /argumentum.al
