TIRANA, October 26 – The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has left in force the security measure of mandatory appearance and ban on the exit of Albania for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
According to the decision of GJKKO made on Thursday, “the citizen under investigation Sali Berisha is ordered to appear on the first and third Monday of every month at 10:00 a.m. before the judicial police officer, Adelajda Metaj at the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime.”
In addition, according to the decision, Berisha is ordered not to leave the territory of Albania without the authorization of the court. “The use of the passport and other valid identification documents for going abroad for the citizen under investigation, Sali Berisha, is prohibited,” says the decision of GJKKO on the security measure against the former Prime Minister.
Berisha must appear before the judicial police officer on November 6 and 20.
Meanwhile, the court announced that the two lawyers appointed by the state for Sali Berisha, Rabije Cenalia and Jalldiz Kastrati, withdrew and did not undertake the defense for the former Prime Minister. In these conditions, GJKKO appointed another lawyer, Valentina Todoresku, who got acquainted with the acts of the file and requested that the security measure be revoked.
But the judging panel decided that the same security measure should remain in force against Sali Berisha, that of the obligation to appear and not to leave the country. /argumentum.al
