TIRANA, October 28 – Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgos Kotsiras was in Kelcyra, southern Albania, where he spoke about the ‘Beleri’ case. The Greek official stated that Greece hopes that the Beleri case will be resolved as soon as possible by the Albanian authorities and according to EU standards.
The message in question was made during the national holiday of Greece in the cemetery where Greek soldiers rest in Kelcyra. Among other things, Kotsiras emphasized the importance of implementing the Constitution of Albania, while adding that Beleri, the elected mayor of the Municipality of Himara, must be sworn in and take office.
“I wish that the Beleri issue is resolved as soon as possible and according to EU standards, he must be sworn in and take office. The government must implement the Constitution,” said the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister during the ceremony. There is no report if there were any Albanian government officials in the event or any reaction to the repeated demands of the Greek authorities.
Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 local election on charges of vote buying. /argumentum.al
