TIRANA, October 30 – The parliamentary session held its proceedings amidst tensions between majority and opposition, which led to its closure ahead of time.
Anticipated to be a session where MPs would present the concerns and demands of the voters according to the areas, opposition MPs blocked the floor accusing the Speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla of violating the regulation. Opposition MPs blocked the floor and tried to stop and prevent the majority MPs from taking the floor.
“For three weeks, you have brought the Assembly of Albania into a deadlock, making its normal functioning impossible with unprecedented actions, starting with your behavior, Madam President, and then with unconstitutional votes, you have made the decision to annihilate the opposition in the Assembly,” said head of the DP parliamentary group Gazmend Bardhi. He referred to the rejection of the “Reestablishment” group’s proposal of the DP for the establishment of three investigative commissions.
Due to the tensions during the one-hour deliberations, Nikolla interrupted the session three times, while the opposition deputy, Bledion Nallbati clashed physically with the socialist deputy, Vullnet Sinaj. MP Nallbati was excluded from the session.
After the interruption of the plenary session, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha told the media that Prime Minister Edi Rama does not allow the establishment of investigative commissions, as he enriches members of his family in flagrant violation of the Constitution. He added that the opposition is fighting a strong battle for the citizens in the Assembly.
“With shameful illegal acts, parliamentary life is being violated. The opposition is waging a battle on behalf of the citizens, in which it demands the restoration of the constitutional rights of the opposition deputies in the parliament,” said Berisha. /argumentum.al
