TIRANA, November 9 – Ambassador Luigi Soreca submitted on Thursday to the highest authorities of the state and government the progress report for Albania from the European Commission, while emphasizing that the country has made progress, but must continue with reforms. The ambassador said that the government should be focused to reduce economic gaps and strengthen political leadership regarding EU reforms.
“The report states that the elections were well organized, but it raises concerns about the misuse of state resources and pressure on voters. The main message is that the constructive and comprehensive dialogue for electoral reform addressing the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR is necessary,” he said.
Soreca invited the government and relevant institutions to make the most of the EU’s political focus on enlargement and the ambition to reduce economic gaps and economic and social differences. “Strong political leadership is needed to speed up EU-related reforms. This requires an inter-party spirit, with a solid negotiation structure so that Albania closely follows the changes it needs to make to integrate into the EU.”
In conclusion, the Head of the EU Delegation said that it should not be forgotten that the reforms carried out by Albania are not necessary to meet the criteria for EU membership, but to improve the lives of Albanian citizens. /argumentum.al
