TIRANA, November 24 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, received her Belgian counterpart, Hadja Lahbib, in a meeting in Pristina on Friday. After the meeting, the Kosovar chief diplomat asked the European Union to be more vocal and clear about the processes that are endangering security and peace in the region, according to Kosovapress.
Meanwhile, the Belgian minister underlined the need for a new commitment in the process of normalizing Kosovo-Serbia relations.
Belgium’s top diplomat Hadja Lahbib, said that despite the progress in dialogue with the reaching of the Brussels and Ohrid agreement, tensions between Kosovo and Serbia are still high. “It has been made some progress in normalizing relations, however tensions are still high. We know from experience that only through dialogue can we move forward in a way that is acceptable to all,” she said, adding that the answer required is de-escalation and a renewed commitment to the normalization process.
In a statement to the media after the meeting, Gërvalla said that she and her Belgian counterpart discussed the challenges of security in the region and Serbia’s aggressive behavior towards Kosovo.
“We talked for a long time about security challenges, geopolitical ones and our region. Not only Kosovo is facing many challenges due to the aggressive behavior of its neighbor, but also Europe in general and the Western world is facing wars and threats, which only together we can face… I had the pleasure to inform you about the process of managing the threats that Kosovo faces in the hope that the European Union will be more clear and vocal in the processes that endanger security and peace in our region,” Kosovo’s FM said. /argumentum.al
