The Acting Chairperson of the OSCE Presence, Clarisse Pasztory, participated today in the joint annual meeting of the High Judicial Council and the High Prosecution Council on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of Justice Day, supported by the OSCE Presence in Albania and the EU4Justice Project.
In her speech, Pasztory, addressing the Annual Joint Meeting stated: “Justice is not only based on quality laws and quality law professionals, but on public trust. And that public trust by Albanians in their own institution is a sensitive, slowly opening bud that we must nourish and protect. You, the justice professionals, are the banner-holders of the credibility of your justice system and with it of your democracy. You are carrying an enormous responsibility, we can only seek to assist you in carrying it proudly and well.”
Today, we celebrate the ongoing efforts of the Albanian justice system in furthering accountability, professionalism, and adherence to the rule of law. We must acknowledge the challenges and obstacles that persist in Albania’s legal development. Each and every case of corruption, impunity, and inefficiency undermines the credibility and effectiveness of Albanian justice system. Together, we must confront these challenges head-on through reforms, increased transparency, and accountability.
The OSCE Presence in Albania backs all investigators, prosecutors, and magistrates in the country. An attack against any of them is intended to deliberately undermine trust and confidence in justice institutions. As we look towards the future, it is essential to foster collaboration and dialogue among all stakeholders in support of the independence and integrity of the judiciary in Albania.
