The former president of Albania, Ilir Meta in an interview for Radio Dukagjini commented on the political developments in Kosovo, and the relationship between Edi Rama, the prime minister of Albania, and Albin Kurti, the prime minister of Kosovo.
Asked specifically about the recent developments in the north of Kosovo with the recent actions of the Kosovo Police, the closing of banks there, the issue of the dinar, and the international reactions that followed Kosovo after these developments, Mr. Meta answers as follows:
Meta: I follow the issue of Kosovo every day and it is in the interest of all of us that this issue, especially the dialogue with Serbia, find a solution as soon as possible in the interest of the two countries and the entire region. There is no doubt that the main responsibility for what has been delayed until now and that should have been achieved in time lies with Serbia and Belgrade.
Let’s not forget the attack in Banjska. Of course, in this direction, I appreciate the commitment of the leadership of Kosovo in the defense of the country’s sovereignty, and I consider it very important that all behavior be proportional and always take into account the achievement of their main objectives and, of course, the best possible coordination with the international factor.
Regarding the positions of the Government of Albania, specifically the positions of Prime Minister Edi Rama against the Government of Kosovo and Prime Minister Albin Kurti over the years, Mr. Meta directly blames Prime Minister Rama, accusing him of being an instigator for the exchange of territories, also for the Initiative ” The Open Balkans’ that Mr. Meta calls a process which was in opposition to the Berlin process and a process which aimed to practically annihilate Kosovo.
“He has done and continues to do anti-Kosovo services. There are many facts about this, one of them is the fact that there is no international recognition as a result of the commitment of Albania’s diplomacy and Mr. Rama’s commitment to the state of Kosovo since 2013.
We are also very clear that Mr. Rama is one of the main initiators, even though he is inferior because Vucic has always been superior, of that process that changed three names from ‘Mini-Shengen’ to ‘Open Balkans’, a process which was like to the Berlin process and a process which aimed to practically annihilate Kosovo.
Let’s not forget that he (Rama) was also the instigator of the issue of changing the borders with the idea that a great solution would supposedly be achieved by opening this ‘Pandora’s Box’ which served not only the goals of Serbia but especially of Russia in a critical moment not only for the Balkans but for the continent. Yes, he is the one who put the former Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, on trial as Prime Minister of Albania“, said Meta for Radio Dukagjini
