The body of the European Commission, the European Association of Operators, has launched investigations after problems with electricity in the Balkan countries during Friday.
At noon yesterday there was a collapse of electricity in Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and in a part of Croatia, writes “Klix”.
Albanian and Montenegrin officials have said that the cause of the regional breakdown of the electric power system is a consequence of heavy loads and increased daily consumption due to high temperatures.
Telecommunications also deteriorated without electricity.
This also opened the way for conspiracy theories. However, Albanian and Montenegrin officials point out that the high temperatures led to higher electricity use and subsequent grid congestion, not malfunctions.
Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina said they have not noticed any malfunctions in their electricity system. Therefore, the body of the European Commission, the European Operators Association, has launched an international investigation to determine the cause of the regional incident.
Croatian officials, as reported by local media, officially announced that the collapse could theoretically affect all of Europe because energy systems are interconnected and that it is irresponsible to make any assumptions before the official investigation by European bodies, which usually takes six months.
