The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, presented on Friday the measures that his country will take “after the recent tensions” in the north of Kosovo. In addition to the measures, he has disclosed seven requests for the issue of the “Kosovo Serb problem”, among which he has listed the request for new elections in the municipalities in the north, the return of policemen and officials of the justice system to their places of origin. work and the formation of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority.
In an address to the Serbs, Vuçiqi said that he will launch a diplomatic campaign all over the world to meet his demands. Vucic has announced meetings with 60 world leaders to present seven demands for progress in the dialogue.
“Serbia is in a very difficult legal and political situation for Kosovo. Economically, we are developing very quickly, perhaps miraculously, but what remains our most painful point is undoubtedly Kosovo”, he said in the presentation of these points.
According to Vučić, the measures that Serbia will take include five areas. The first of what he presented was the return “to everything that has been achieved in the process of dialogue”. Here he said that Serbia has been “more responsible in the whole process”. In a document that was given to journalists before the meeting, as reported by “N1”, more is written about this point. It says that it will be demanded that “all consequences from the unilateral and uncoordinated actions of the Kurti regime be removed”. He presented these as “necessary preconditions for significant progress in the dialogue process”.
In this area, Vuçiqi has requested, in addition to immediate elections, the return of Serbian prosecutors and judges to their positions and the withdrawal of police forces from the north of Kosovo. His other urgent request was the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.
As other measures, Vuçiqi has said that Serbia will declare Kosovo a “special social protection zone” to help the unemployed financially.
As another measure, Vuçiqi has said that there will be resistance from Serbian institutions in Kosovo and the establishment of a prosecutor’s office. In “resistance” it is foreseen that “Serbian institutions in Kosovo will not be abolished or closed”.
He also warned that offices will be opened near the border with Kosovo for the Serbs of the north, so that they have access to social protection services.
As the fifth measure, “the decision on the illegality of all institutions in Kosovo established after the unilateral declaration of independence” is presented.
The President of Serbia has also said that legal experts were against the declaration of “occupation”, as reported by some Serbian tabloids, and this issue will be declared at Vucic’s conference.
“We should not give them the status of a legal armed force. We will not give them legitimacy”, he said. “But we do not give up on Kosovo, but we want to help our people and that is why we are doing this. We don’t want war, but we want our rights in peace”.
Vucic’s list of demands:
The announcement of “free and democratic local elections” in the north of Kosovo, with the participation of the OSCE and the supervision of the EU,
The return of Serbs to the Police and the return of Serbian judges and prosecutors to their functions,
The withdrawal of the special forces of the Kosovo Police from the bases and checkpoints in the north,
