The Council of Albanian Ambassadors (CAA) considers the ongoing protests by students and Serbian citizens who are courageously taking a stand against corruption, autocracy, and the erosion of democratic values as demonstrations that reflect the frustration of people who demand accountability, transparency, and respect for fundamental rights, values that are the foundation of any democratic society.
History has shown that when people take to the streets in protest, do so for a reason.
Their voices must not be ignored, suppressed or discredited. The right to peaceful assembly and expression is a cornerstone of democracy, and we firmly stand with all those who fight for justice, equality, and a government that serves its citizens rather than ruling over them.
CAA expresses its deep concern on the repressive and absurd reaction by the Serbian authorities, both by the political institutions as well as by law enforcement agencies.
The Council stands in solidarity with all individuals and movements advocating for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The aspirations of the people must not be met with repression but with dialogue, reform, and a commitment to a just and democratic society.
Furthermore, the Council of Albanian Ambassadors calls on all governments in the region to take heed of these protests as a reminder of their duty to respect and uphold the rights of their people.
It is unacceptable for any leadership to silence dissent, disregard public demands, or weaken democratic institutions in favor of authoritarian rule. The international community must remain vigilant and actively support those who seek a future defined by freedom, integrity, and true democratic governance.
Supporting stabilocracy at the expence of democracy is a very shortsighted approach.
