TIRANA – Albania has temporarily locked the border with Kosovo in the frame of the preventive measures against the spread of the coronavirus infection as the number of affected citizens has jumped to 33 in Albanian territory.
According to an announcement of the National Center for Border Management operating at Kosovo’s Interior Ministry quoted by Albanian and Kosovo media on Friday, the border crossing to Albania’s territory will be shut down prohibiting all Kosovo citizens to enter the territory of its neighbor starting from March 13, 2020, at 06:00 am.
“Only health or first aid vehicles, commercial and government vehicles will be allowed. This measure will last until March 15, 2020 at 24:00,” it is said.
There is no official announcement on this measure by the Albanian government which has locked vehicles movement in most of the territory of the country.
So far, Kosovo has not registered any cases affected by Covid- 19. All the tested citizens have proved negative, but nevertheless, Kosovo government has closed schools and discontinued all public activities as a preventive measure.
On Friday morning, as Albanian Health Ministry said, the number of coronavirus cases was up to 33 as compared to 25 a day before. According the official update, 159 tests were made during the last 24 hours. An elderly woman passed away in Durres a few days ago becoming the first victim of Covid-19 in Albania./argumentum.al
