TIRANA – A 66-year old patient infected with coronavirus is reported to have passed away increasing to two the number of victims in Albania which is struggling to cope with the infection.
“On Wednesday morning the 66-year old patient from Lushnja hospitalized in the infectious hospital as he was infected with Covid – 19 passed away,” said an announcement released by the health ministry on Wednesday. It added the patient who was hospitalized a few days ago suffered from some other diseases like cardiac insufficiency, pulmonary edema and renal insufficiency.
In another announcement the health ministry revealed that the number of the Covid-19 cases rose to 59 from 55 on Tuesday.
Another development was the release from the hospital of the patient 0 who was re-tested on Tuesday resulting negative. “During the 24 hours about 60 suspected persons were tested out of which 4 came out to be positive. Up to now a total of 665 persons have been tested in Albania and they have shown that 59 were infected,” said the ministry.
Tirana tops the list of the affected with 42 cases, while Durres remains stable with 5 cases. An observation of the map of the distribution of the cases shows that central Albania is hit by Covid-19 with no reported cases in other areas of the country.
“Despite the measures which have been taken, it is important the social isolation and personal hygiene for restraining as much as possible the infection. The best way is to stay at home,” says Wednesday’s update released by the health ministry.
Such a message was conveyed even by specialists of infectious diseases through TV and social media networks some of whom spoke from European countries where they work at well known medical institutions. /argumentum.al
