TIRANA – Coronavirus has apparently put off the debate between Parliament and President Ilir Meta on the controversial issue of the Constitutional Court in Albania.
A final decision was sent to relevant authorities in Tirana by the experts of the Venice Commission whereby it is postponed to October this year the final opinion on the process of the election of the members of the Constitutional Court. Such a ruling was made public on Thursday.
Initially the Venice Commission had decided to cancel the plennary session due to the coronavirus epidemic and send in writing the final opinion to Tirana, but it’s clear that even this alternative has been annulled.
According to the experts, the correspondence shows clearly that none of the Albanian institutions wanted to accept the conclusions of the preliminary opinion and for this reason the final opinion will be adopted in the next meeting to be held in October.
The opinion of the experts of the Venice Commission has been asked by the parliamentary investigation commission set up to dismiss President Ilir Meta.
In their preliminary opinion the Venice experts turned down the decision of the majority to limit the right of the President regarding the swearing-in of Court’s members and some decisions of the Judicial Council of Assignments were criticized by the experts. /argumentum.al
