TIRANA – Another victim from coronavirus has increased to 16 the total number of fatalities in Albania where 18 new infected cases were reported on Thursday.
In the daily update Rovena Daja, an official of the Institute of the Public Health (ISHP), said that the new confirmed cases rise to 277 the total number of the people infected by the virus since the outbreak of the epidemic in this Balkan country whose authorities decided on Wednesday to extend the confinement measures until the end of the pandemic.
Ms. Daja revealed that the rising trend of the recovered patients continues as 9 of them were declared negative increasing to 76 the number of the recovered patients.
“During the last 24 hours 96 persons have been tested out of which 18 cases were confirmed with Covid-19. Until now a total of 1919 suspected cases have been tested and 277 persons have been found positive. There are only 8 children among the infected,” said the ISHP officials, who added that the average age of the infected is 50. On Wednesday, the number of the new cases was 16.
Some 81 persons are found in the infectious hospital being under medical care 8 of which are in intensive therapy while 4 others are on ventilators.
There has been an increase of the affected persons in Tirana with 143 cases and Durres with 30 cases, while this number varies from 10 to 1 in different areas of Albania.
Being on the cautious side PM Edi Rama said Wednesday evening that a plan was being framed to ease the confinement measures which will enter into force immediately after a drop of the curve of the daily infected.
“We are studying an easing of the measures for the movement of people starting from the next week,” said Rama, who finds himself under rising pressure from the opposition to review the entire system of quarantine./argumentum.al
