TIRANA – Tuesday’s daily bulletin by the health authorities seems to be a ray of hope in the heinous battle against coronavirus epidemic as 6 new cases were confirmed positive during the last 24 hours down from 16 cases confirmed on Monday.
“Six new cases have been identified in last 24 hours, bringing the number of infected people to 383,” said the specialist of the Institute of Public Health (ISHP), Silva Bino, who disclosed that 2753 cases suspected with COVID-19 had been tested of which 383 citizens tested positive so far in Albania, which has entered the fourth week of the outbreak of the pandemic since the location of the so called patient 0.
But Ms. Bino was reluctant to confirm that 22 citizens have lost the battle with this deadly virus. “But the good news is that in addition to the moderate increase in the number of infected people, the number of recovering citizens has been increasing every day,” she said. Over the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health has announced that 15 patients had been cured, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 131.
In the meantime she informed that there are currently 67 patients in the infectious diseases hospital and 5 of them are in intensive care. At COVID 2 Hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi” there are 7 hospitalized patients. 6 patients are in intensive care, while 3 patients are intubated. “At COVID 2 hospitals 74 patients are currently being treated,” Ms. Bino said.
Regarding the map of the spread of those affected by COVID-19, she said that it has expanded in the cities of Tirana, Elbasan and Korça. The highest number of infected persons is in the Capital Tirana (181 cases) followed by Shkodra (44 cases), Durres (38 cases) and Fier (26 cases).
“As it can be seen, today we have a significant decrease in the number of cases affected by COVID-19 which shows that the epidemiological investigation and tracking of new cases or their contacts have functioned properly and have been carried out according to established protocols,” ISHP’s official said concluding with an appeal to citizens to continue to respect social distancing measures./argumentum.al
