TIRANA – The number of infected people with coronavirus keeps rising amounting to 609 as 25 new cases were added during the last 24 hours, according to the daily update by local health authorities on Tuesday.
“25 positive cases with COVID-19 were confirmed in the last 24 hours. Today is the first day since the beginning of the epidemic that Tirana has no new cases,” has said the Director of the Public Health Institute Director, Albana Fico.
The number of tested people stands at 6017 cases at a time when opposition is mounting its pressure for more tests blaming the government that it is hiding the real situation in the country.
The veteran Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, a former president and premier, insistently presents daily a gloomier situation in Albania claiming that about 68 people have passed away instead of 26 as reported by the competent health bodies. In a television talk on Monday night he called on the people to take to the streets against government’s handling of the pandemic combat.
Meanwhile Director Fico revealed on Tuesday that 18 more patients had recovered from COVID-19 bringing the number of cured persons to 345. However, she admitted that currently there are 238 active infected people a number which is lower than that of recovered patients.
“This trend has been going on for more than a week now,” she said, adding that there are currently 32 patients in the infectious disease hospital, while there are 8 patients at the COVID 2 “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospital. The map of those affected by COVID-19 is expanding in Kurbin (27 cases) and Kruja (40 cases), said Fico. /argumentum.al
