TIRANA – As May 4 has marked the next phase of facilitations of restrictions taken to combat COVID-19 the number of the new infected cases was 8 on Monday two more than a day before, a local health official has said making public details related to the pandemic situation in Albania which has entered its 7th week gripped by COVID- 19 virus.
“Out of 140 tests performed during the last 24 hours for people suspected with COVID-19, only 8 positive cases were confirmed. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 803 citizens have been confirmed affected with the viruws throughout the country and currently 68 percent of them have recovered,” said Eugena Tomini, an expert of Institute of Public Health (ISHP), on Monday.
According to her, there are 229 COVID-19 active cases throughout the country, and most of the affected persons are being treated by family doctors or are asymptomatic. Some 34 patients are hospitalized at two COVID hospitals in Tirana and as Tomini said they are in stable condition while only 7 of them are in intensive care.
“As you are aware, a further easing of measures has begun, with the addition of green areas, allowing the intercity taxi service,” said the expert.
There are 18 cities and towns that are no longer in quarantine, mainly small municipalities, but even the city of Vlora. Among them are the municipalities of Tropoja, Rrogozhina, Peqin, Belsh, Cerrik, Gramsh, Ura Vajgurore, Kucova, Berat, Polican, Skrapar, Devoll, Pustec, Maliq, Mallakaster, Kolonje, Vlore and Selenice. Part of the ease of the restrictions is that taxis of all cities are allowed to travel anywhere in Albania with hygienic-sanitary measures and security protocols, upon condition of carrying only up to two passengers that are members of the same family.
It is expected that the next phase of easing measures will start on May 11 instead of 18 as it was announced earlier. /argumentum.al
