TIRANA – As Albania has announced that it will open its land borders with the neighboring countries for all Albanians starting from June 1 this year, the coronavirus situation seems hectic with numbers of cases going up and down finding no retreat.
“The number of confirmed positive cases across the country exceeded 1000 on Monday. 6 infected persons were confirmed during the last 24 hours out of which 4 cases were found out in Tirana and 2 in Shkodra, mainly contacts of previous positive cases,” said the specialist of the Institute of Public Health, Eugena Tomini on Monday in the daily briefing.
According to her revelations, the new cases have been traced in two cities, respectively 4 in Capital Tirana and 2 in Shkodra, northern Albania bringing the total number to 1004. Meanwhile, six patients have recovered during the past day.
“The situation in the infectious disease hospital is stable. Currently 16 patients are being treated, while 4 of them are in intensive care,” said Tomini.
Since the beginning of the pandemic on March 9 this year, over 14,500 molecular and serological tests have been performed. There are currently 177 active people in Albania with COVID-19, mainly in Tirana, Durres and Kruja.
Since the start of the pandemic
About 79% of those affected have already recovered, said Tomini, who added that “unfortunately, 32 citizens passed away despite the efforts of medical staff.”/argumentum.al
