TIRANA – Austria reconfirmed its support to Albania’s bid to open the EU accession negotiations, as well as its ambition to take the seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2022-2023 period.
This was confirmed by two Austrian Ministers who paid an official visit to Tirana on Thursday during which they handed over a significant amount of humanitarian aid packages and medical equipment to combat coronavirus pandemic.
The news was made public by the Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj who met Austrian Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg and Austrian Minister for EU and Constitution, Karoline Edtstadler, reported a press release distributed by the press office of the foreign ministry.
“Austria has strongly supported Albania’s bid to open the EU accession negotiations, Albania’s OSCE Chairmanship for 2020 and the two Austrian Ministers confirmed their support so that Albania to take the seat of the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2022-2023,” Cakaj was quoted as saying on Thursday./argumentum.al
