TIRANA – While there was a drop of the number of new infected cases in the last 24 hours as compared to a day before, the virus is causing victims among those infected with it.
“The novel virus claimed more fatalities. The victims are a 74-year-old woman from Shkodra and a 82-year-old woman from Tirana,” said the specialist of the Institute of Public Health, Marjeta Dervishi in her daily medical bulletin on Wednesday. The death toll has mounted to 65 since the outbreak of the pandemic with a frightful spike during the last three weeks.
According to Dervishi, 45 persons were confirmed positive with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. D
“During the last 24 hours, 276 tests have been performed to persons suspected of being infected with covid-19, of which 45 positive cases have been confirmed. The geographical distribution of cases is as follows: 21 cases in Tirana, 10 in Shkodra, 4 in Elbasan, 3 cases in Delvina, 3 in Kurbin, as well as 1 case in Kruja, Kukes, Lezha and Saranda, respectively,” said the ISHP specialist.
In addition she said that the number of active cases in Albania stands at 999 and 71 of them are being treated at the Infectious Diseases Ward. Ten of them are in intensive care and 1 in intubation.
In the meantime Dervishi spoke of a good news which is that 57 infected citizens have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered patients to 1,516 since the beginning of the epidemic.
According to the health authorities, the increased number of cases in the last 2 weeks has put the health system on high alert, but at the same time it is an appeal to all citizens to be collaborators in this battle.
“Please follow the rules, keeping social distance from each other, keeping masks indoors where it is not possible to keep social distance, maintaining personal hygiene, protecting yourself and others in order to limit as much as possible the spread of Covid-19,” said Dervishi./argumentum.al
