TIRANA – Any unilateral intervention in the Constitution will be considered an unacceptable act that aims to destroy the rule of law, democracy and the European future of Albania, has said President Ilir Meta.
The President made that pledge after a meeting with the Ambassadors of the EU Delegation, of EU member states and of the United Kingdom in Tirana on Friday.
He assured them that he would immediately decree the amendments to the Electoral Code in compliance with the 5 June consensual Agreement.
The amendments were adopted on Thursday by Parliament with 99 deputies voting in favor an act which was welcomed by the united opposition.
“I stressed the importance of continuing the work of the Political Council only in the spirit of consensus and inclusiveness,” said Meta being determined not to accept any unilateral intervention in the Constitution.
In another event President Meta received the DP Chairman, Lulzim Basha whom as he said in a post on FB he thanked for his constructive contribution to the achievement of the June 5 Agreement and asked him to continue working in the Political Council in the spirit of consensus without falling prey to any provocation.
“I encouraged the continuation of close cooperation with all invested partners for the opening of Albania’s accession talks with the European Union as soon as possible,” Meta said in his FB note. /argumentum.al
