TIRANA – The total number of fatalities has mounted to 134 as 6 people infected by COVID-19 passed away during the last 24 hours in Albania, a statement by the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) said on Saturday.
“Unfortunately, 6 citizens could not win the battle with the disease at ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ Hospital and Infectious Diseases Hospital,” said ISHP’s specialist Genta Qirjako. According to her, some of them suffered from concomitant diseases, while some others were infected only by the virus.
This is the highest daily death toll registered in Albania since the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic on March 9 this year.
In the meantime, Qirjako revealed that 67 new cases of persons infected by the virus were confirmed bringing the total number of infected people to 4,637 in this Balkan country.
“We address a call to every citizen: Be careful every day by following the rules. Avoid assembling. Keep social distancing from each other. Be sure to wear the mask indoors,” was the appeal made by Qirjako. According to her, such measures could help to limit as much as possible the spread of COVID-19./argumentum.al
