TIRANA –The Deputy Commander of the Albanian Navy, Artur Mecollari has been fired because of alleged violation of security rules, a statement by the Defense Ministry said as quoted by local media on Saturday.
A year ago Mecollari, Captain of the first rank, was appointed as alternate commander of the naval force of Albania and was also part of the negotiating group for the sea agreement with Greece.
The dismissal came after the senior naval officer gave his consent for the organization of the ceremony of a civil wedding on a military ship. It was the wedding ceremony of the son of a former military man.
“The decision on the dismissal was made after he did not respect the security rules and violated the status of the military by organizing an event without the knowledge of the relevant structures,” said the Defense Ministry quoted by Balkan web.
Although the ceremony did not take place the entry of civilians in a ship without any permission violates the regulations of the navy and the armed forces.
According to the procedure, Mecollari had to report to the respective military structures. Despite his dismissal from one of the highest ranks of Albanian navy Mecollari will continue to be part of the naval forces./argumentum.al
