Professor, Politician Sabit Brokaj Passes Away

Professor Sabit Brokaj well- known for his medical and political career in two epochs of Albania passed away at the age of 78 from a heart attack.
During the communist rule he was a confident doctor of the late dictator, Enver Hoxha as well as Health Minister.
After the establishment of pluralism Brokaj has been a member of the Albanian Parliament since 1991 representing the Socialist Party, the follower of the Labor Party of Albania, Minister of Health (1991) and the Minister of Defense during 1997-1999. He traveled to France to study cardiology in 1979 and echocardiology in 1982. It was this period that Brokaj was one of Enver Hoxha’s personal physicians.
Left wing politicians paid homage to him on Sunday praising his deeds.
“It is a sad news on the prominent doctor and intellectual, who was always engaged in national affairs even as an MP and minister. His passing away is an irreplaceable loss that hurts all of us who have know him intimately,” wrote President Ilir Meta on Facebook./argumentum. al
