The leader of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha has warned that the situation in Albania is on the verge of disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic in a meeting held with doctors and health experts on Wednesday.
Basha said that the opposition demanded that teachers be tested before the schools were opened, but this was not done.
“Seasonal flu is coming. We have asked for measures to be taken to avoid its overlapping with COVID-19. The early symptoms of COVID are similar with those of pre-existing flu,” he said.
Further on Basha said opposition demanded testing for teachers, but no one listened to them. For example teachers in Kosovo have been tested and that is a regular periodic rule. “But nobody took that into account in Albania where the situation is on the verge of disaster,” said Basha, who is also head of the United Opposition.
“It is unforgivable that 6 months after the pandemic started, no one, not even you as doctors, have any information about what measures have been taken and what failures have occured. That is what even the highest government authorities are admitting silently,” he said.
DP’s head noted that people are talking about a second wave, but as he said there is no second wave. “We are on the tail of the first wave.”
In conclusion he asked medical experts to make studies and provide findings so that a detailed working document as an action plan can be framed that DP will present politically as opposition to the government.
In the meantime it’s reported on Wednesday that 3 people lost their life bringing to 370 the death toll in Albania since the outbreak of the pandemic while tests showed that 121 persons were confirmed infected by COVID-19 over the last 24 hours./argumentum.al
