The second day of vaccination on Tuesday started with 60 epidemiologists from Tirana, Durres, Kruja and Kavaja at the premises of “Air Albania” in the Albaniab capital to continue again with the staff of Covid hospitals, said the head of Health Institute (IPH), Silva Bino on Tuesday. She announced that vaccination of the elderly will also begin very soon.
Health Minister Ogerta Manastirliu said that vaccination will be combined between medical staff and the elderly in the coming days.
“It will be combined between them and the staff in the coming days,” Manastarliu said.
“We have no missed dose as it should be used within 2 hours here after being opened. We can vaccinate up to 600 people a day. Very soon we will start the vaccination process for the elderly,” said Bino.
The prime minister, Edi Rama was among the first people to receive a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to the video posted on the prime minister’s official Facebook page.
The immunisation started with vaccine doses donated by an unnamed country, but two countries are rumoured to be the donors- Austria or Turkey. This has triggered a debate in media and social circles speculating on what kind of vaccine is being used.
The first 975 doses of the vaccine are being delivered to the medical staff of the specialised Covid-19 hospitals in Tirana.
Rama said earlier this month that Albania has reached an agreement with US pharmaceutical company Pfizer to receive an initial batch of 500,000 doses of its Covid-19 vaccine in January and February.
Albania plans to deliver a number of vaccine doses to Kosovo for the vaccination of the medical staff of the Covid-19 hospital in Pristina starting next week. /argumentum.al
