Albania appreciates the support that Poland has shown in the process of Albania’s integration into the European Union, Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka has told the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Zbigniew Rau.
She made that assessment during an online meeting with the Polish Foreign Minister on Friday, a press release issued by the mministry’s press office said.
Xhaçka stressed that Albania is waiting for the date to be set for the First Intergovernmental Conference within the first six months of 2021.
Official Brussels has not set a date for Albania and North Macedonia to start this stage of the accession process in the Union with senior bureaucratic officials just saying
they expect to kick off the talks setting no precise deadline.
Poland has been among the strongest supporters of enlargement pushing for the expedition of the membership process of Albania and such a stance has been backed even by the Visegrad group part of
which is Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The two ministers also agreed on increasing commitment to further the bilateral cooperation between Albania and Poland and assessed that the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union is a matter of strategic importance. /argumentum.al
