Resignation, call on citizens to cast their ballots on April 25 elections, disbelief in judiciary and Special Prosecution (SPAK) were among the main topics President Ilir Meta touched upon during a conversation with representatives of civil society on Thursday.
The President said that if this majority is confirmed as the winner without affecting the vote, he resigns on April 26 and let everyone know this. “I am a President who has never been afraid of elections,” said Meta. Even earlier he made public such an intention by saying that he would become the head of the opposition in case of quitting the post of head of state.
Further on Meta said that all party leaders should ask the citizens to punish their party, if someone tries to steal the votes, as, according to him, they should do the same with his former party Socialist Movement for Integration.
Among other things, Meta made a strong statement regarding the April 25 elections, as he said that he does not expect justice to ensure free and fair elections. “I do not expect justice and free and fair elections because we know all the problems of the justice system and the very way the Justice Reform has been implemented. If the Prosecution and the SPAK had functioned, I would not have taken the initiatives that I have started. The Bundestag has been demanding the investigation of electoral crimes for years, which are not yet fully investigated.”
Meanwhile, Meta called on all citizens to go to the polls on April 25, because, according to him, otherwise they have no right to complain.
The President also sent a message to the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Crime and Corruption, as he spoke about the parliamentary elections.
“The issue of elections is already an issue of the whole society, because the integration of Albania also depends on it. The vote must be once and for all holy and equal. We will support all institutions to do their job in this regard, including SPAK. But with the ‘small fish’ of the Dibra and Shijak files, none of those who intend to interfere in the electoral process are afraid,” said the Head of State. /argumentum.al
