On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Albanian exodus of March 6, 1991, Prime Minister Edi Rama has paid a 2-day visit to Italy.
Rama was received on Friday afternoon in Bari by Italian Foreign Minister Di Maio and the Governor of the Puglia region, Michele Emiliano.
According to Di Maios, after 30 years, it is time to remember together those days that brought 25 thousand Albanians to the Italian shores.
“Today we wanted to remember and celebrate all this, together with the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is also a dear and appreciated friend of Italy and the governor of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano,” he said.
Di Maio recalled the help of Albanian doctors and nurses at the time of the outbreak of the pandemic in Italy, when 30 medics contributed to Italian hospitals. Further, regarding the integration of Albania, Di Maio said that Albania should be part of the EU.
“Our already strong bond finds support even in NATO, but we can not be satisfied. Europe itself does not call itself united if Albania and the Western Balkans are outside. We will commit to make this happen as soon as possible. Our invitation is that they (who oppose) do not hesitate and reject their prejudices. Expansion with the countries of the Western Balkans must take momentum”, said Di Maio.
The Mayor of Bari, Antonio Decaro received the Prime Minister, Rama in the Palazzo di Citta on Saturday which was also attended by Bari Mayor Antonella Bellomo, Regional Governor Michele Emiliano and Puglia Regional Council President Loredana Capone. /argumentum.al
