President Ilir Meta did not respond to the request of the Law Commission of Parliament, which had scheduled a hearing session with him in the frame of the demand of Socialist Party (SP) deputies to dismiss him, by not going to the meeting on Thursday.
But the presidential top advisor, Edmond Panariti announced that the head of state will be available to attend the hearing session on May 10.
In a comment on the process started by the majority right after the conclusion of the April 25 general elections, which have given the SP Premier, Edi Rama, a third mandate to rule Albania, Panariti expressed surprise at the haste of the Law Commission with a majority of Socialist members.
According to Panariti, the SP’s aim is to create a fictitious process to divert attention from the real post-election situation through such a political process. The target is to ‘whitewash’ the electoral crimes. In his view all the process is evident constitutional and legal violations that naturally show the invalidity of this fictitious initiative.
Panariti, who is the director of the presidential cabinet, stressed in the announcement, which was released on Thursday, that the President had expressed his readiness to meet, discuss and express himself in the parliamentary Law Commission. “But the agenda of the President of the Republic is predetermined. So he is available to participate in this hearing session with the members of this Commission on May 10, 2021,” said Panariti, who added that moreover that day coincided with the Albanian National Day of Justice.
“There would not be a more appropriate moment for such a joint activity to take place on such an important day for Albania, which evokes the tireless efforts of the Albanian state for the rule of law!” it is noted in the President’s announcement.
On Wednesday, the Law Commission decided to hold the hearing session on May 6 according to a proposal of the Chairman of this parliamentary commission Ulsi Manja.
Besides other engagements President Meta is hosting the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor with whom he will hold official talks and a joint press conference on Thursday. In addition, Meta will meet the Federal Minister for European and Constitutional Affairs of Austria Karoline Edtstadler. /argumentum.al
