The executive order issued by US President Joe Biden to ban entry into the US and confiscate the property of anyone who causes destabilization in the Balkans, as well as his decision to declare persona non- grata former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has been considered extraordinary by the elected lawmaker of Democratic Party (DP) Ervin Salianji.
In an interview on a local TV on Saturday he said that DP is indisputably based on the values that unite it with the US and
Western nations and is based on the strategic partnership with the US. Salianji said that there is no person in Albania who does not know the extraordinary contributions of Sali Berisha since the fall of the regime and the establishment of the DP. “So, the battle for dignity and the battle for not violating his dignity is a battle that has set him apart from the DP.”
Also, according to him, it is extraordinary news that the US attention has returned to the Balkans, especially to Albania. “There is no question that anyone involved in corrupt or criminal affairs should be held accountable for failing to do so due to weak institutions and the non-functioning of the rule of law in Albania,” said the DP deputy.
Commenting on the statement of former Prime Minister Berisha on a possible return to the DP’s chairmanship, Salianji said that he sees it as a joke made at a certain moment, while declaring his vote in favor of the acting leader of the Democrats, Lulzim Basha.
“Tomorrow in the elections within the DP I will vote for Lulzim Basha as the next chairman of the DP, at a time when the party is in great need of stability. I will give massive support to Basha,” he said. / argumentum.al
