“I am very happy that we have established a relationship between the cities as Tirana will be the European Capital of Youth next year,” has said the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj in a meeting with the mayor of Athens, Kosta Bakoyannis on Thursday.
The two counterparts expressed confidence that the future belongs to young people and agreed to work on joint projects.
“We are committed to the youth of Albania and Greece, two neighboring nations, who have shared a very long history of relations in the Balkans to connect with each other. The more young people connect, the more they advance our common projects,” said Veliaj.
Special attention was also paid to the issues of concern to Albanian emigrants living in Greece and their integration programs in Greek daily life. Mayor Veliaj praised the high degree of integration of Albanian emigrants in Greece and stressed that together with Mayor Bakoyannis they are working to enable the establishment of the Albanian cultural center in Athens.
Athens mayor Costas Bakoyannis stressed that the two cities have common challenges in the future, so they must work together to give the opportunity for a secure future to the younger generations. / Argumentum.al
