Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić complained to Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković “about the brutal campaign that is being conducted in Croatia against Serbia”. The two met at the Western Balkans Summit.
Plenković on Wednesday asked Vučić to address the issue of Serbian grammar books that negate the existence of the Croatian language.
“The Croatian PM said that he was interested in resolving the situation with the textbook for the 8th grade, one textbook is in question, inside is the position of the Academy of Sciences of Serbia, which divided the South Slavic languages, and Croatian is not listed, we will look at it and consider it,” the Serbian president told Croatian media.
According to the local Croat-language weekly “Hrvatska riječ”a grammar book for eighth-graders, Serbian, Slovenian, Macedonian, and Bulgarian languages are South Slavic languages while “Croats, Bosniaks and some Montenegrins call the Serbian language Croatian, Bosnian, Bosniak or Montenegrin.” The textbook was approved by the Serbian Institute for the Promotion of Education./Euractiv/
