North Macedonia and Kosovo confirmed at a conference in Tirana on Thursday that the European Commission has asked them not to follow Albania’s example of justice reform.
At the beginning of the ‘Tirana Connectivity Forum’ held in Tirana on Thursday, the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, proposed that the Open Balkans initiative be extended to justice. He said that Albania will officially propose the ‘Open Balkan’ Justice Cooperation initiative.
But the Justice Minister of North Macedonia, Bojan Marickij, immediately opposed the Albanian minister. “The European Commission has explicitly forbidden North Macedonia to adopt the Albanian model for justice reform,” he said.
The Minister of Justice of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu stated the same. “The European Commission not only did not ask us, but insisted not to take the Albanian model as an example because of the bad consequences it has brought,” the Kosovo minister said. / Argumentum.al
