Montenegro’s Deputy PM worried over ‘inflation’ of initiatives in Western Balkans

Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovic has spoken about regional initiatives, the “Open Balkans” and a potential new initiative between Montenegro, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina in an interview with RTV21.
Abazovic said he is not against initiatives but was worried about their delivery.
“I have nothing against initiatives. I think we have an inflation of initiatives and we do not achieve what should be the essence,” Abazovic said.
According to number two of Montenegrin government, the matter of the question is the way to improve cooperation, which, according to him, will create calmer relations than are currently in place throughout the region.
“So, I am not sure that if we start with two initiatives, we will find that modality, because we have achieved a rivalry of initiatives. I do not think that’s the right thing to do, but we should give it a try. I think that an initiative should be made that would be functional and would create opportunities for cooperation to become concrete,” Abazovic said.
Further on he said that there is still great influence from Russia and Serbia in Montenegro, but added that no one can change the foreign policy and the European course of the country.
He also spoke about the recent tensions in northern Kosovo, and the meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti. Abazovic sent a message on behalf of the Montenegrin Government that he wants to see peace and happiness in each of the six Western Balkan countries. Among other things, he noted that all the negative impact on some of these countries is transmitted to Montenegro. /argumentum.al
